PLN to complete Tulehu geothermal drilling in December

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has completed drilling two geothermal wells of the planned four wells at the Tulehu geothermal work area in Maluku Tengah Regency, Maluku Province.

Director of Geothermal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saefulhak said in a statement obtained Wednesday that PLN is currently drilling the third well and has reached a depth of around 1,400 meters.

He said that PLN is expected to complete drilling the entire four geothermal wells in December of this year.

PLN resumed in June of this year drilling activity in the geothermal working area after having been suspended since 2011. The utility company plans to develop a 2x10 MW geothermal power plant, expected to start operation in 2020.
