PLN to cooperate with GE on several areas

State owned utility firm PT PLN and global energy giant GE Energy signed a preliminary agreement for several strategic cooperation, including on biomass and coal gasification technology.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday by PLN President Director Nur Pamudji and GE Energy President for Asia Pacific Kenji Uenishi.
The MoU covers certain areas of cooperation. The first one is on the development of power plants using renewable sources of energy, in particular biomass, something that GE has developed in term of its technology.
GE will also support PLN on the development peaker power plants. Peaker plants are generally gas turbine that burn natural gas. GE will ensure the supply of components or parts for PLN?s equipments produced by GE.
Another area of cooperation is on transfer of knowledge on technology development, under which GE will sharpen up the skills of PLN employees through training activities.
