PLN to develop new power infrastructures in N. Sulawesi

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to develop new power infrastructure facilities in North Sulawesi including expansion of existing substations, developing a new substation and transmission line.

PLN said in a statement that the utility firm signed on Thursday contracts worth Rp 220 billion for the development of the facilities with three companies including PT Citra Riantara, PT Baruga Asri Nusa Development and PT Bangun Energi Sejahtera.

The statement said that the projects include the development of additional 30 MVA transformer at the GI Tanjung Merah substation in Bitung city, additional 60 MVA transformer at GI Paniki in Manado city, development of a new GI 150 kV Molibagu with transformer capacity of 30 MVA in Bolaangmongondouw Selatan Regency, and the development of a 150 kV, 149.6-km transmission line along with 212 towers.

PLN said that the new infrastructure facilities are needed to facilitate growing power demand in the North Sulawesi and Gorontalo (Sulutgo) interconnection system.

According to the 2017-2026 electricity procurement business plan of PLN (RUPTL), the north Sulawesi region covering three provinces of North Sulawesi, Gorontalo and Central Sulawesi will see the development of 2,186.3 MW of new power plants, 2,520 MVA substations, and 3,965 kilometer circuit of transmission lines.

The Sulutgo interconnection system currently has peak load of 356 MW serving 783,898 customers.
