State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said it is developing underground 150 kV high voltage underground power lines (SKTT) in six locations in Jakarta and Banten to help increase reliability of electricity supply during the upcoming 2018 Asian Games.

PLN Business Director for Western Part of Java Region, Haryanto WS said that the combined 129.2-km power lines are expected to be completed in the middle of next year, a few months ahead of the Asian Games.

He said Thursday that the project can be completed relatively quick as it does not require the traditionally lengthy land acquisition process.

The new transmission lines will also be hooked up to a new substation to be developed to facilitate electricity demand from property development projects by Summarecon and Pelindo.

He added that the company has allocated around Rp 997 billion for the transmission network project, part of which financed via internal funds and the rest via foreign loans.
