PLN to directly appoint investors for mine mouth power projects

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN will directly appoint investors, instead of through tender mechanism, for most of planned mine mouth power plant projects in a bid to help accelerate electricity supply in the country.
President Director of PLN Sofyan Basir said on Wednesday that that this will be included in the upcoming 2017-2026 electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL), which is expected to be completed next week.
He said that there?s potential of more than 5,000 MW of mine mouth power plant projects in Sumatra and Kalimantan, two key coal producing islands in the country. ?Development of mine mouth power plants can be made via direct appointment or assignment,? he said.
