PLN to electrify entire Bawean Island by 2019

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN will continue to develop transmission lines to the inner part of Bawean Island, in Gresik Regency, East Java, as the utility firm seeks to electrify the entire island by 2019.

The company said in a statement that on Bawean Island, which gets power supply from gas-fired and diesel-fired power plants with capacity of 8 MW, there are remaining 11 hamlets which have yet to be electrified.

?There are remaining 11 hamlets which have yet to be electrified. We target that by 2019, 100 percent of the hamlets on Bawean Island are already electrified,? General Manager of PLN for East Java Distribution, Dwi Kusnanto said in a statement Thursday.

The 197.42 sq km Bawean Island currently has 86 power stations with installed capacity of 12,699 kVA, and peak load of 4.8 MW.
