State-owned electricity firm PT. PLN plans to expand the Nagan Raya coal-fired power plant in Aceh to help meet increasing demand in the region.
Hilmi Najamuddin, Head of PLN?s Coal Division, told Petromindo.com that the company has started making plan to develop the third and fourth units of the power plant project following the completion and operation of the first and second units last year.
The previous government inaugurated the Nagan Raya 2x110 MW coal-fired power plant in Aceh in October.
Hilmi said that the third and fourth units are expected to also each have a capacity of 110 MW.
He said that the coal requirement for the planned third and fourth unit will need coal with calorific value of 3,400 kcal/kg (GAR), which is expected to be supplied by PT Mifa Bersaudara, an indirect subsidiary of IDX-listed integrated energy firm PT ABM Investama Tbk, which operates a coal mine in West Aceh with a mine life of about 30 years.
