PLN?deputy director for primary energy Tonny Agus Mulyantono said in Jakarta Tuesday that out of 22 million tons of coal per year supplies needed by the 10,000 MW coal-fired power plants per year, 85 percent or 18 million tons have been met in the previous or the first tender.
"The tender is thus to meet the remainder," he was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying on Tuesday.
He said that the five companies selected to supply 18 million tons of coal per year through the first tender were expected to meet the coal needs in 10 areas of Java Island.
The five selected companies are the consortium of PT Arutmin Indonesia and PT Darma Henwa with mines located in South Kalimantan; PT Surya Sakti Darma Kencana with mines located in South Kalimantan; PT Baramutiara Prima with mines located in South Sumatra; the consortium of PT Kasih Industri Indonesia and PT Senamas Energindo Mulia with mines in South Kalimantan; and Titan Mining Energy with mines located in Jambi.
According to Tony, PT Senamas Energindo Mulia, PT Kasih Indonesia and Titan Mining Energy have yet to start production. Still, they won the tender because they had met the minimum required reserve of 150 million tons of coal and were committed to supplying the 10,000 MW power plants in 2009 or 2010. (*)
