Yogo Pratomo, the head of the 10,000-MW power plant projects, said PLN have invited two operators of power plants located in the complex into the contest.
There are now six power generating units with a combined capacity of 3,340 MW, owned by PLN?s subsidiary PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali (Paiton Unit 1 and 2 with a combined capacity of 800 MW), PT Paiton Energy Company (Paiton Unit 7 and 8 with a combined capacity of 1,320 MW) and PT Jawa Power (Paiton Unit 5 and 6 with a combined capacity of 1,220).
The new power generating units will be called Paiton Unit 3 and 4 to differentiate them from other power units in the giant complex. Both will have a combined capacity of 800 MW.
Yogo noted that only Paiton Energy and Jawa Power had been invited to the contest as PJB is thought to have no funds to finance the project.
Each of the two companies has been asked to file their bidding price by Feb. 21.
?Let?s see who among them shall give the lower price. After that, we shall negotiate (with the company that offers the lowest price). We hope the construction of the power plant will be completed in 36 months,? Yogo said.
According to Yogo, both companies now sell power to PLN at a ?low? price, that is at about 4.9 US cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) for Paiton?s power and about 4.7 cents for Jawa Power?s power. (Godang)
