State electricity firm PLN will hold a “beauty contest” late next year to find coal suppliers for its 2 x 300 MW Cilacap Power plant in Central Java, which is expected to come onstream early 2006.
PLN director Ali Herman Ibrahim said the plant, whose construction had just commenced would need around 2 million tons per annum of coal when fully operated. ”The coal for Cilacap is subituminous coal with calorific value of between 5,000 to 5,500,” said Ali.
“There are plenty of coal suppliers in Kalimantan and South Sumatra which could meet the plant’s coal specification requirement. What we will do is to hold bidding regularly to ensure the plant get the best price,” said Ali.
PLN, together with Chinese counterpart, Cheng Da Corp. had commenced the US$ 600 million power plant, which is aimed to add electricity supply in Java-Bali grid. (alex)
