State owned electricity company PT PLN will cooperate with Japanese company Tsukishima Techno Machinery Co.Ltd (TSK) to build a steam turbine dryer for PLTU Rembang coal-fired power plant in Central Java.

?The project is still in an engineering stage, and we hope it could be completed at the end of 2013,? PLN?s Senior Manager for coal contract agreement Achmad Mudakkir said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said that the drying facility would be used to improve the added value of low rank coal to be used by PLTU Rembang coal-fired power plant, which at present produces electricity of 260 megawatt per unit using coal with calorie of 4,200 kcal.

With the use of the steam turbine dryer, the capacity of the power plant is expected to increase to 300 megawatt per unit, he said. ?This facility will improve the added value of the low rank coal as its fuel, and then improve the generation capacity,? he said.
