Beginning next year, state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will introduce internet-based auction system for the procurement of goods and services financed by the state budget.

The internet-based auction system, called e-Procurement, will be implemented in cooperation with the institution for procurement policy for state-financed goods and services (LPKK).

In 2011, PLN receives Rp 9 trillion (US$=Rp 8,922)in state funds for development of electricity facilities in rural areas.

Bambang Dwiyanto, the senior manager for corporate communication, said in a press release that under the e-Procurement system, suppliers no longer need to go to the PLN office to get documents needed for bidding process.

With the internet-based procurement system, bidders can download all the required documents through http://eproc-lpse.pln.co.id, he said, adding that there would no longer direct contacts between suppliers and PLN officials when the new system had become effective.

?If a bidder needs a clarification, he can just chat through the internet,? he said. ?The bidders will be invited to PLN only if they win the bidding, because they have to sign a contract,? he added.

PLN has adopted the e-Procurement system since 2005 but it is only used for the procurement of goods and services financed by the company?s own funds. (godang)
