State-owned electricity firm PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will slightly cut down electricity tariff of customers with capacity of more than 2,200 VA by Rp 1-5 per kwh in August.

PLN President Director Sofyan Basir said on Thursday that the lower electricity tariff is made possible due to the lower oil price, despite a weak rupiah against the US dollar.

He said that the reduction in the electricity price will help ease the burden of businesses, while the effect on household customers is little.
