The office of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN in Timika, Papua, plans to move the location of a planned 4x7 MW coal-fired power plant project from the initial location in Aryuka Pet-II Village of Mimika Timur District to Pigapu Logpon Village, Iwaka District, both in Mimika Regency, Papua.

Antara news agency quoted Manager of PLN Timika office, Harlin Panggabean as saying that the project could not be developed in the initial location, a former port area of gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia, due to swampy condition.

?We?re now waiting for approval of the head office,? said Harlin.

Engineering company PT Rekadaya Elektrikal, a subsidiary of PT Pembangkit Listrik Jawa-Bali (PJB) signed a contract on March 6, 2013 with PLN for the construction of the power plant. (*)
