PLN to open bid to build coal-fired power plant in E. Nusatenggara

State electricity firm PLN said Monday that it would open pre-qualification bid to build 2 x 25 MW coal-fired power plant in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara province.

PLN director Ali Herman Ibrahim told reporters that the bid would be opened on September 24, and winner is expected to be announced mid-November.

According to Herman, some 50 local and foreign companies had expressed informal interest to build the plant, which is estimated to cost around US$ 40 million.

Ali said construction would commence in 2005, with completion seen in 2007.

He further said the plant would consume around 200,000 ?300,000 MT of coal annually, which will be sourced from South or East Kalimantan. (godang)
