State electricity firm PLN will open the third phase coal supply tender for its 10,000-MW coal-fired power project in the third week of this month, a company senior official said on Monday.

Head of Primary Energy Nasri Sebayang told reporters that PLN will open 3.4MTPA long-term coal supply tender for Sumatra and South Kalimantan power plants.

Nasri said PLN estimated that it would need 31.9MTPA of coal when all its power plants under the 10,000-MW crash program become onstream in 2011-12. The company has secured 16.2MTPA of coal supply in the first phase tender and is in the process selecting suppliers for 12.3MTPA supply, which is expected to be signed this month.

Nasri said the 31.9MTPA coal requirement has calculated strategic inventory of 2MTPA. (godang)
