PLN to open tender for MFO supply

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to call for bids to supply 3 million kiloliters of marine fuel oil (MFO) in October 2008, its president director said.

The MFO would be used to meet the need from the company`s generators across the country in the next three years, Fahmi Mochtar said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

"So, the supply of MFO to the generators reaches 1 million kiloliters per year," he said.

PLN`s fuel consumption this year is estimated at 7.91 million kiloliters consisting of 4.59 million kiloliters of HSD and 3.32 million kiloliters of MFO.

Of the total, 6.41 million kiloliters will be supplied by state oil and gas company Pertamina and 1.5 million kiloliters by other suppliers through tenders.

PLN had relied on Pertamina for the supply of much of its fuel needs under an agreement between the two state firms without any tender. (*)
