PLN to open tender for Pemalang IPP project in June

State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will open tender to develop 2,000-MW coal fired power project in Pemalang, Central Java that would be built under Independent Power Producer (IPP) scheme in June, this year.

Bambang Praptono, PLN?s director for planning and technology said in Jakarta on Friday that the agreement of the tender schedule was made during a recent meeting with potential bidders.

?The project will be awarded to those which offer the most competitive selling price to PLN,? he said.

?We are making prepartions for the tender, which is expected to be held in June 2009. Ninety percent of the interested companies are foreign ones", he said.

At least 30 companies, mostly international firm included Marubeni Corp., Siemens AG, Alstom, YTL Corp., AREVA, Huadian Power International and Datang International Power Generation Co., have expressed their interest to take part in the tender.

Bambang said the Pemalang power project would receive guarantee from the Indonesian government.

PLN has appointed the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, as its lead transaction advisor for the competitive tendering of the Pemalang IPP project.(bernard)
