PLN to open tender for power plants re-powering Dec-Jan

State electricity firm PLN said it would open tenders for repowering its three combined cycle power plants in Jakarta on December this year or January next year.

?Several companies had stated intention to participate in Muara Karang, Tanjung priok and Muara Tawar power plant re-powering projects,? PLN?s deputy director Tonny Agus Mulyantono said last week.

He said Japan?s Mitsui and Mitsubishi had stated interest in Muara Karang project, while Mitsubishi, Siemens, Alstom were interested in Muara Tawar project. Mitsui, Alstom, General Electric and Siemens were interested in Tanjung priok project, he said.

He said the winners of the tender could be announced between March and April 2007 with works expected to be completed in 30 months. Under the repowering program, the capacity of each power plants would be increased to 720MW.

Gas supply for the power plant would come from PGN (100MMCFD), Medco (50MMCFD) and ConocoPhillips (50MMCFD). Gas would be purchased at US$3.5 per MMBTU, Tonny said. (godang)
