State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to start operating in March of this year another marine vessel power plant (MVPP) in Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku province.

Kontan reported Saturday that the MVPP will have a capacity of 60 MW.

The paper quoted Indrandi Setiawan, General Manager for Maluku region at PLN, as saying that the MVPP will help increase power supply to meet growing demand in the region.

PLN leased the MVPP for five years from a Turkey company, the paper said, but did not disclose the name of the firm.

PLN has recently operated a 120 MW MVPP called Karadeniz Powership Zeynep Sultan located in Amurang, Minahasa Selatan Regency, North Sulawesi Province, which was also leased for five years from a Turkey company.

The company last week said it also plans to soon operate an MVPP in Medan, North Sumatra, with a capacity of 240 MW.

PLN plans to lease other MVPPs to be located in Lombok and Kupang.(*)
