State-owned electricity company PLN has set a target for its second unit of the Pacitan coal-fired power plant in East Java to start commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year.

The project has seen some progress. First firing and steam blow were conducted last week. Breakwater facility has also be completed, while construction of a permanent jetty to accommodate coal supply is nearing completion.

?The coal-fired power plant is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of this year, so that it could supply 600 MW of electricity,? said Head of the Coal Division at PLN, Helmi Najamudin, while adding that the second unit will have a capacity of 300 MW, the same with the first unit.

The power plant project is developed by a consortium of China?s Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC), and Indonesia?s Dalle Energy. The commercial operation of the first unit was made in June.

The project is located on a 65 ha plot of land in Sidomoro sub-district, about 30 km east of Pacitan, East Java.
