PLN to receive gas for Muara Tawar power plant

State electricity firm PLN said on Tuesday it would start receiving gas from state oil and gas firm Pertamina and state gas distribution firm PGN for its Muara Tawar 900-MW combined cycle power plant in Bekasi, near Jakarta, this month.

PLN?s Head of Primary Energy Nasri Sebayang told reporters that 60MMCFD of gas from PGN and 30MMCFD from Pertamina would flow to Muara Tawar on August 15, 2008 through PGN?s SSWJ II pipeline network that connects South Sumatra and West Java.

Sebayang said gas volume from PGN would increase to 200MMCFD in November this year. Gas supply from PGN and Pertamina would enable PLN to cut fuel costs for the power plant as currently PLN is using expensive HSD, he said.

Sebayang said PLN buys PGN?s gas under two contracts; the first 50MMCFD at US$4.5 per MMBTU for five years and the remaining balance at $5.6 per MMBTU for three years. Meanwhile, PLN will pay $4.5 per MMBTU for Pertamina?s gas. (godang)
