PLN to require low rank coal for S. Sumatra 9, 10 power plants

State-owned electricity firm PLN will soon hold tender to select contractors for the construction of the 2x600 MW South Sumatra 9 coal-fired power plant and the 600 MW South Sumatra 10 coal-fired power plant, Kontan reported on Saturday.
The winning bidders will be required to use low rank coal with calorific value of 3,000 kcal/kg for the two mine-mouth power plant projects, the paper said.
The paper quoted PLN Director for Planning, Murtaqi Syamsuddin as saying that the plan to use the 3,000 kcal/kg coal for the two projects was in line with the stipulation in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No 10/2014, and huge supply of the low rank coal in South Sumatra.
