State electricity firm PLN said it would shut down nine units of its power plants in Java for 10 days starting October 20 to anticipate sharply declining demand due to Islamic holiday.

PLN?s spokesperson Mujo Adjie said PLN would shut down 3 units of Suralaya, one unit of PLN?s Paiton and one unit of Tanjung Jati coal-fired power plant, two units of Grati and one unit of Gresik combined cycle power plants, and also 2 units of Muara Tawar.

Muljo said that the shut down would save PLN Rp.40 billions (US$=Rp.9,150) per day.(godang)
