State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to shut down several units of power plants in Java in days before and after the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri as demand is expected to decline during the days, a company official said Thursday.
?We plan to shut down the power units from three days before until seven days after Idul Fitri. This is because many industrial customers will turn off their factories on those days and also we need to maintain the units' resilience ? PLN corporate secretary Mulyo Adji told reporters.
According to Mulyo, the power units that will be shut down are the Unit 5,6,7 of the Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten, Jawa Power and Paiton Energy units of the Paiton power plant complex in East Java, and the Unit 1 and 2 of the Muara Tawar combined-cycles power plant in Jakarta.
