State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is scheduled to sign engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts on the construction of five coal-fired power plants on October 23, 2007.

The five coal-fired power plants include the 2x25 MW West Nusa Tenggara 2 power plant, the 2x25 MW North Sulawesi power plant, the 2x25 MW Gorontalo power plant, the 2x200 MW North Sumatra 2 power plant and the 2x100 MW Lampung power plant.

“Actually, we expected the contracts to be signed this week. Due to a transportation problem, Chinese investors (that win the projects) can not come. That’s why, we delay it until after the Idul Fitri holiday,” said PLN’s president director Eddie Widiono in Jakarta Tuesday.

He did not specify the winners of the projects.

According to him, the five coal-fired power plants are expected to start operation between October and December 2009. (godang/bernard)
