PLN to sign PPAs for 5,250 MW power projects

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is expected to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with independent power producers (IPPs) for a combined 5,250 MW of power plant projects between September and December of this year as the company seeks to realize the government?s 35,000 MW program.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Tuesday in an update report of the second quarter performance of the electricity sector that PLN is also set to sign EPC contracts in September-December of this year for the development of its power plan projects with combined capacity of 2,850 MW.

Director General of Electricity at the ministry Andy Noorsaman Sommeng said in the statement that of the government?s target to develop a total of 35,000 MW power plants through 2019, a total of 1,253 MW of power plants have already reached commercial operation status including 480 MW of marine vessel power plants (MVPPs) comprising of MVPP Sumut 240 MW, MVPP Amurang 120 MW, MVPP Kupang 60 MW and MVPP Ambon 60 MW.
