PLN to sign PPAs with several hydropower plants

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to sign power purchasing agreements (PPA) with several owners of hydropower plant (PLTA) projects.

New Renewable Energy Division Head M. Sofyan said on Wednesday the firm plans to sign a PPA with PT Rajamandala Electric Power, the owner of the 47-MW PLTA Rajamandala, near Cirata/Sagulinng, West Java. PLN will pays the firm 8 US cents per kWh for its power.

Also, PLN will sign a PPA to buy power from the planned 100 MW PLTA Bonto Batu, South Sulawesi at the price of 8.1 US cents per kWh. According to reports, the hydropower plant will be built by Norwegian firms, backed by the Norwegian government.

?The negotiation is done. Only administrative preparation is still pending,? Sofyan said.

He also said PLN is negotiating on prices with from several geothermal power plants (PLTP) whose energy sales contract (ESC) are about to expire.

?For instance, we want to extend the ESC with PLTP Kamojang (in West Java). But, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) (the owner of the power plant) wants a price adjustment. The negotiation is in progress/

?Besides, we shall soon sign an ESC with PLTP Sokoria in East Nusatenggara owned by PT Bakrie Power,? he said.
