PLN to soon operate new unit of E. Kalimantan?s Tanjung Batu gas power plant

State electricity company PT PLN will this month operate a new power unit at its Tanjung Batu gas power plant in East Kalimantan, Kompas daily reported Wednesday.

The additional unit will have capacity to generate 20 megawatts (MW) of electricity for 10,000 new customers from Balikpapan, Samarinda and Kutai Kartanegara regency, the paper quoted as saying Arifin Syah, general manager of the East Kalimantan office of PLN.

Private investors built the new power facility, which cost around Rp125 billion (US$=Rp8,400).

With the operation of the project, electricity supply from East Kalimantan?s Mahakam power system will rise to 171.5 MW, from the current 157 MW, Arifin said. (*)
