State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to soon start operation of the 2x10 MW PLTU Holtekamp coal-fired power plant in Jayapura, Papua Province.

Haryanto WS, PLN's Business Director for Maluku and Papua Regions told Petromindo.com on Friday that the power plant project has now entered the synchronization phase.

"For unit 2 it has been synchronized, and has obtained the SLO (certificate for operation), and currently is in the testing and preparation phase," Haryanto explained. Meanwhile for the unit 1, according to Haryanto, is currently in the phase of preparation for synchronization.

PLTU Holtekamp, located at District of Muara Tami, Jayapura, Papua Province, is the first coal-fired power plant in the province.

Haryanto added that aside from targeting to operate PLTU Holtekamp this year, PLN will also operate Mobile Power Plant Jayapura with capacity 50 MW, but did not say when the operation will exactly start.
