PLN to switch off several power plants

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and several independent power producers (IPPs) plan to switch off their power plants as part of the regular overhaul program.

PLN?s Deputy Director Rudiantara said in Jakarta Tuesday that the power loss during the overhaul was around 4,134 megawatt (MW).

Power plants owned by PLN subject to the overhaul include Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten with a capacity of 1,521 MW, Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant in Central Java with a capacity of 660 MW, Paiton coal-fired power plant in East Java with a capacity of 370 MW and Tambak Lorok coal-fired power plant in Central Java with a capacity of 2 x 150 MW. Meanwhile, IPPs, Paiton Energy Company with a capacity of 640 MW and Jawa Power with a capacity of 610 MW will also be subject to the regular overhaul.

Both Jawa Power and Paiton are currently operating 1,220-MW and 1,320-MW power plants, respectively, in Paiton power complex in Situbondo, East Java.

PLN ?s Director of Outside Java System Haryadi Sadono said that power burden during the Idul Fitr Holiday was only between 11,000 MW and 12,000 MW or a decline compared to 16,000 MW in the ordinary day. (godang)
