State-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will use fully low-rank coal for its all coal-fired power plant projects in the future, the company?s official said on Thursday.
PLN?s senior manager planning and evaluation of primary energy, Chairani Rachmatullah said that projects that use low-rank coal include first and second stage of the government?s 10,000 MW crash program.
PLN will use low rank coal with calorific value of 3,800-4,200 kcal/kg (GAR). Meanwhile coal with calorific value below 3,400 kcal/kg (GAR) will be used by mine-mouth power plant projects, she said.
PLN would need up to 43.5 million tonnes of coal supply for this year, lower than earlier estimation of 55 million tonnes due to the fact that completion of the first stage of 10,000 MW project has been way behind schedule. (giok)
