Blackout hits several areas in Jakarta and surrounding cities on Tuesday after state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negera (PLN) unplugged the giant Suralaya power plant complex in Banten from the Java-Bali power grid.
The coal-fired Suralaya power plant has seven units with a combined capacity of 3,400 MW.
?There is a trouble at the Gandul transmission station in Depok, West Java. That?s why we unplugged the power plant,? Suralaya?s General Manager Sudirmanto told Petromindo.com.
PLN would mobilize the existing stand-by gas-fired power plant to make up the lack of supply as a result of the unplugging of the Suralaya power plant, Sudirmanto said.
According to him, as a result of the incident, several areas in Depok, Bogor and Rawamangun could not get power supplies from 11 a.m. (Godang)
