State owned electricity company PLN has successfully unveiled 139 cases of power theft in Jakarta and surrounding areas including Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok since the company launched a joint sweeping operation with the national police seven months ago.

The power theft carried out mostly by corporate subscribers including the government's institutions had caused a financial loss amounting to about Rp 28.1 billion to the state owned electricity company PLN.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the head of the joint sweeping operation, Harry Ronald Wattilite said that most of the violators modified the electricity meters in order to reduce their monthly electricity bills.

He said that at present PLN had taken a legal action against the violators. (dino)
