State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has suggested for electricity output from a solar power plant (PLTS) project to be developed at the Cirata dam in West Java Province to be set at around 6-7 US cents per kWh.

This is much lower than the current tariff from traditional solar power plants in Indonesia of up to 15 cents per kWh.

PLN Director I for Strategic Procurement, Nicke Widyawati said on Thursday that the tariff should be lower as the Cirata solar power plant will not require land acquisition because it will be located at a dam owned by PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of PLN.

Nicke said that PJB has completed feasibility study of the planned project.

As has been previously reported, PJB on July 16 signed a MoU with with renewables developer Masdar, a subsidiary of United Arab Emirates? Mubadala Investment Company, to identify and develop renewable energy-based projects in Indonesia. The two companies plan to develop the Cirata solar power plant.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar previously said that Europe?s Akuo Energy has also expressed interest to participate in the project. (*)
