Electricity firm PT Indonesia Power, the operator of Suralaya power plant, has asked the government to find solution for a coal supply problem that might occur in 2006 as coal producers plan to raise their coal prices, a company official said Saturday.
?PTBA (PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam) has planned to raise its coal price to about Rp 300,000 per ton next year, while others private suppliers are set to sell their coal at about Rp 350,000 per ton,? Suralaya general manager Bambang Susianto said, adding that Indonesia Power could only afford the commodities at Rp 280,000 per ton.
Bambang said Suralaya would need around 12 million tons of coal in 2006 with around 6.1 million tons expected to be supplied by PTBA.
In May, PTBA and Indonesia Power have agreed on the price of Rp 272,000 per ton for the 3,400-megawatt power plant for this year, higher from the previous year's price of Rp244,200 per ton. (dino)
