PLN, Waskita sign Sumatra transmission project contract

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN signed on Friday contract with state-controlled engineering and construction firm PT Waskita Karya Tbk for the development of a 500 kV transmission line linking Muara Enim in South Sumatra Province and New Aurduri in neighboring Jambi Province.

PLN said in a statement that Waskita will develop the 554 circuit kilometers of transmission line project in three years. Total investment for the project, which will facilitate the transmission of electricity from mine mouth power plants in South Sumatra to other parts of the island, is estimated at around Rp 3 trillion.

PLN President Director Sofyan Basir said in the statement that the Muara Enim-New Aurduri transmission line forms part of the total 16,213 circuit kilometers of transmission lines to be developed by PLN in Sumatra, targeted to be completed in 2019.
