The plant will take 7 years to develop, according to PLN?s Head of Procurement Division Monstar Panjaitan, which means the project could start operation in 2019 at the earliest.

?It takes a long time, about 7 years. One year for tender, another year for land acquisition, one year for funding. Construction could start by 2014,? Monstar said as reported by Bisnis Indonesia yesterday.

Estimated to cost US$1 billion, PLTA Karama is the first hyrdro power plant project that uses the PPP scheme.
