State owned electricity company PLN expects it will be able to increase its power generation capacity by 3,500 megawatt (MW) in 2013 from the operation of new power plants during the year, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday

Nasri Sembayang, PLN?s Director for Construction said that the additional power supply would come from the operation of the company?s new power plants built under the first 10,000 megawatt fast-track power plant construction program, and from several Independent Power Producers.

?Next year, we estimate additional power supply will reach 3,500 MW,? Nasri said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The power supply from new power plants in 2013 would be lower than in 2012 during which PLN expected to get additional power supply of 6,000 MW from newly operated power plants.

The new coal-fired power plants which are expected to begin commercial operation next year include PLTU Tanjung Awar-Awar with capacity of 2x350 MW, PLTU Pacitan with capacity of 2x315 MW, PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu with capacity of 2x350 MW, PLTU Nagan Raya with capacity of 2x110 MW, and PLTU Teluk Sirih with capacity of 2x112 MW.

Nasri said none of power plants which are built under the second 10,000 MW fast track program would be able to begin operation in 2013, but some of them will begin operation in 2014, he added. (*)
