PLTA Upper Cisokan ready for construction

State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has signed a contract to kick off the development of PLTA Upper Cisokan pumped storage power plant project in West Java.
The contract was signed by PLN?s Business Director for West Java region Supangkat Iwan Santoso and Senior Vice President of Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd. Lee Kee Yong, who represented the contractor, on Oct. 9, 2015 at PLN?s headquarters in Jakarta, PLN said in a statement last week.
The contract to build the power plant was won by a joint venture comprising South Korean firm Daelim, Italian firm ASTALDI and Indonesian firm PT Wijaya Karya (Wika).
The 4x260 MW power plant will be the first in the country to use pumped store upper technology. It is scheduled to start operation in February 2021.
The power plant will add supplies to the Java-Bali grid particularly during peak load. With an installed capacity of 1,040 MW, it will be bigger than that the country?s two largest hydropower plants, namely PLTA Cirata (1000 MW) and PLTA Saguling (700 MW).
