PLTA Upper Cisokan to come onstream in 2018

Director of Miscellaneous New Renewable Energies Alihudin Sitompul said the 4x260 MW power plant is now under construction.
?Land acquisition has been completed. If the construction takes three years, that means the power plant will come onstream in 2018,? he said on Monday in a hearing with the House of Representatives? Commission VII which is in charge of energy affairs.
The World Bank, the financier of the project, is still committed to providing funds for the project, he said, adding the project is estimated to cost US$765 million, of which $638 million will be provided by the World Bank, $20 million from the central government, $107 million from public utility PT PLN.
The total area that will be under water thanks to the project is 804.64 hectares. In Rongga district of Bandung Barat regency, three villages will be submerged, namely Bojongsalam, Sukaresmi and Cicadas. The areas that will be submerged in Cianjur regency are Cibeber and Bojongpicung districts.
According to schedule, a 33 km road with a width of eigth meters should have been built from Cipongkor district to the dam site. However, the construction of the road has been put on hold due to lack of funds, Alihudin said.
The power plant will add supplies to the Java-Bali grid particularly during peak load. With an installed capacity of 1,040 MW, it will be bigger than that the country?s two largest hydropower plants, namely PLTA Cirata (1000 MW) and PLTA Saguling (700 MW).
The power plant will be the first in the country to use the pumped store upper technology in its operation.
