State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that preparations are underway to start construction of the second phase 155 MW PLTMG Bangkanai gas engine power plant in Central Kalimantan, which is targeted to start operation in March of 2018.

This was said by Djoko Raharjo Abumanan, PLN Business Director for Kalimantan Region. He said on Thursday that the second phase of the PLTMG Bangkanai power plant will be developed by a consortium of Wartsila Finland Oy and IDX-listed engineering and construction firm PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk, which also developed the first phase 155 MW PLTMG Bangkanai, which has recently started supplying electricity to Central, South and part of East Kalimantan.

?The capacity (of the second phase PLTMG Bangkanai) will be the same with the first phase PLTMG Bangkanai at 155 MW, comprising of 16 (generating) units each with capacity of 9.7 MW. It is now still at the preparation stage (for construction),? he told Petromindo.com.

The PLTMG Bangkanai phase 2 will be located close to the Bangkanai phase 1, Djoko said. He said that the Bangkanai power plant plays essential role in absorbing gas output from the Kerendan field, in Bangkanai PSC, Central Kalimantan, operated by Ophir Indonesia (Bangkanai) Ltd with a 70 percent interest, while PT Saka Energi Bangkanai holds the remaining 30 percent equity interest.

?Once the phase 2 (project) is completed, the total capacity of PLTMG Bangkanai will be 310 MW, Kalimantan will be bright full,? Djoko said.
