PLTMG Panaran starts operation

PT PLN Batam has started the commercial operation of the gas engine power plant (PLTMG) Panaran with a generation capacity of 3 x 8,1 Megawatt (MW) in Batam, Riau Islands province, since October 31st of 2012.

PT PLN President Director Nur Pamudji inaugurated the power plant on Thursday (November 22, 2012) in conjunction with the 67th anniversary of national day of electricity in Harmoni One Convention Center Batam, where a seminar and exhibition on Indonesian power was held.

The Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) of the project was conducted by a consortium of PT Medco Power Indonesia, PT Dalle Engineering Construction, and PT Top Deal International, with a contract value of Rp 179.8 billion.

The construction of the PLTMG project was started on October 10th of 2011, and its first engine was installed on January 30th of 2012 after the completion of EPC.

?It is part of the PLN?s 2011-2016 program to reduce its cost of power generation and to strengthen the power system in Batam,? Bright PLN Batam President Director Dadan Kurniadipura said during the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

At the same occasion, Nur Pamudji also inaugurated the start of construction of MEB Combine Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) and Chiller. Once completed this project will generate an additional capacity of 30 MW, - 8 MW through the chiller and 22 MW through combined cycle.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) for the MEB CCPP and Chiller Project was signed on October 15th of 2012. The chiller facility will be completed in 12 months and the combined cycle in 24 months after the signing of the PPA.

?I hope that with the operation of the three units and later the MEB CCPP and chiller, power security in Batam will be improving, and investors will be encouraged to come,? said Dadan.
