State owned utility company PT PLN inaugurated Wednesday the commencement of commercial operation of a 20 MW gas-fired power plant in Rengat, Indragiri Hulu, Riau.
Called the PLTMG Rengat, the plant was built by a consortium of PT Wijaya Karya, PT Navigat Energy and PT Prastiwahyu Trimitra Engineering using six GE Jenbacher gas engine units.
"We appreciate the consortium for completing the project right on schedule, which is six months," PLN Director of Operation for Western Area Harry Jaya Pahlawan said during the inauguration.
Gas supply comes from state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina using gas pipeline network belonging to state owned gas distributor PT PGN.
PLN buys the electricity from the consortium in a special 7-years BOO scheme arrangement at a price of Rp 335 per kWh. The new power plant would allow PLN realizing a cost saving of Rp79b per year compared to previous power generating scheme.
