State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has planned to start the commercial operation of the geothermal power plant (PLTP) Baturaden in Banyumas regency of Central Java province in the year 2018 or 2019.
The contractor of the power plant, PT Sejahtera Alam Energy is negotiating its energy sales contract (ESC) with the government.
?The process of negotiating the ESC is still proceeding now. But the price already agreed at 9.47 US cents per kilowatt hour (kWh),? said Anang Yahmadi, Senior Manager of Geothermal at PLN New and Renewable Energy Division, in Jakarta on Monday.
The contractor has also got a license to use the forest area from the ministry of forestry. With the license, it is allowed to conduct an initial exploration in the geothermal work area (WKP), which has a total area of 24,660 hectare that is 90 percent protected forest.
The development of two units of the PLTP, each having a generation capacity of 110 megawatt (MW), is part of the government?s second fast track program to develop 10.000 MW.
