PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has planned to start the commercial operation of the geothermal power plants (PLTP) Dieng Unit 4 and 5 in Banjarnegara regency of Central Java province in the year 2018 and 2019.

Currently, the government and PLN are waiting for its developer PT. Geo Dipa Energy to make a development proposal of the geothermal project.

?The development of unit 4 and 5 will also depend on the renegotiation of development for unit 2 and 3,? said Anang Yahmadi, senior manager of geothermal at PLN New and Renewable Energy Division in Jakarta on Monday.

The development of the two units of geothermal power plants, each having a generation capacity of 55 megawatt (MW), is the continuation of PLTP Dieng unit 1, 2, and 3. The unit 1 has been in operation since 2002, while the unit 2 and 3 are planned to start commercial operation in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

The power generated from the geothermal power plants will be distributed through the Jawa-Bali interconnected grid.
