PLTP Hu?u to start operation in 2019

State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said that the geothermal power plant (PLTP) Hu?u with a generation capacity of 2 x 10 megawatt (MW) in Dompu regency, West Nusa Tenggara province, would start commercial operation in 2019.

Its developer, PT Pacific Geo Energy, is conducting a survey of G&G (Geological & Geophysical) and in a process of finalizing its pre-feasibility study.

?Both PT PLN and the developer has agreed tha the price of power generated from the power plant is 9,65 US cent per kwh (kilowatt hour),? Anang Yahmadi, the senior manager of PLN New and Renewable Energy Division, said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The geothermal project is located in a 19,310 hectare geothermal working area (WKP) that has a total potential capacity of 65 MW, and approved by the ministry of energy and mineral resources on October 22nd, 2008.

It is expected to be able to meet the rising need of power in Sumbawa island.
