State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has targeted that the geothermal power plant (PLTP) Jailolo, with a generation capacity of 2 x 5 megawatt (MW), in West Halmahera regency of North Maluku province will start operation between 2016 and 2017.

The local administration is now in a process of issuing an assignment letter to its developer PT Star Energy Geothermal Halmahera, as a formal requirement for the project development.

?In the process, the local government is waiting for a proposal from the developer as a basis to propose to the energy and mineral resources ministry to approve the appointment of Star Energy for the project development,? PLN New and Renewable Energy Division?s Geothermal Senior Manager Anang Yahmadi said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He also noted that the power price that had been agreed was at Rp 1727,54 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

So far, the developer had completed the G&G (Geological & Geophysical) study of the power plant project, which had been started to be developed since 2009 and is expected to meet the local need of power in Halmahera island.
