State electricity company PT PLN is targeting that the sixth unit of PLTP Kamojang geothermal power plant (PLTP Kamojang Unit 6) in West Java will be able to begin commercial operation in 2016.
The power plant with a capacity of 60 megawatt will be built and operated by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, which is now preparing drilling activities to provide geothermal supply for the power plant.
?We are still waiting for a proposal from developer (Pertamina). That will be a source of information for us to discuss electricity sale contract (ESC),? said Anang Yahmadi, Senior Manager for Geothermal Energy at PLN which will become the buyer of the electricity produced by PLTP Kamojang Unit 6.
Anang said PLN might buy the power from the geothermal power plant at 8.25 US cent per kilowatt hour (kWh).
At present there are four generator units at PLTP Kamojang geothermal complex including PLTP Unit 1, with a capacity of 30 MW, PLTP Unit 2 and 3, each with a capacity of 55 MW and PLTP Unit 4 with a capacity of 60 MW.
The government has planned to build PLTP Kamojang Unit 5 (40 MW) and 6 (60 MW) as part of the second 10,000 fast track power plant development plan.
