PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has planned to start the commercial operation of the geothermal power plant (PLTP) Lumut Balai in Muara Enim regency of South Sumatra province in the year 2014 or 2015.

Its developer PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) has completed the drillings of 14 wells.

?This project is to develop unit 1 and 2. The developer is also seeking to secure its financing for the project,? said Anang Yahmadi, senior manager of geothermal with the state utility PT PLN New and Renewable Energy Division in Jakarta over the weekend.

He added that the PLTP would consist of 4 units with each having a generation capacity of 55 megawatt (MW).

He also said that the power price that had been agreed by the government, the developer and PLN was at 7.53 US cents per kilowatt hour (kwh).

The development of the geothermal project, which is part of the second fast track of developing 10,000 MW, is aimed at fulfilling the power need in Sumatra region II, covering Palembang in South Sumatra, Riau province, and Bengkulu province.
